PROJECT DESCRIPTION:
This project involved the refurbishment of two existing retail fitouts into one high end modern motor
cycle showroom and work shop. It required the demolition and structural alterations of the existing
spaces and the creation of new partition works to form the shell of the new showroom. Substantial
upgrades to electrical and data services were required for the high level of audio visual and
marketing requirements. The interior fit out was complex and required careful coordination with
overseas manufactures of custom furniture to fit into detailed spaces.
The fitout involved the innovative use of joinery and finishing techniques to produce a building
reflecting its aged industrial American branding. This included using cement fibre sheets to form the
likeness of heavy steel beams and the use of metallic and specialist rust effect paints to provide an
aged appearance. Other specialist finishes included the use of clay brick wall tiles, hand pigmented
flooring and selectively stained marine plywood panels. Despite having an overseas based designer
and an interstate client, the early provision of samples and high levels of communication enabled the
project team to achieve the clients desired finishes.
This project in particular highlighted the benefit of partnering with The Slatter Group as our pragmatic
and co-operative approach minimised the impact of scope changes and allowed the attainment of
particular levels of finish. This project was completed on time, to a high standard and with minimal
variations. Importantly, a good relationship was maintained with the project team and the project has
been successful for the client.
