Penrhos College Early Learning Centre

This project involved alterations and additions to the existing Early Learning Centre facility at Penrhos College.

The first floor area required to be altered to create larger classroom spaces. The ground floor was to be extended to create an additional classroom approximately 120m2 internal floor area.

The procurement route chosen by the Client on the project was traditional with the Client’s Representative engaging and managing the design team both pre and post contract.

The first floor area involved the demolition of existing load bearing and non-load bearing walls to integrate and enlarge existing classrooms.

The scope involved installing steel beams to maintain the structural integrity of the building and re-configuring gyprock walls and ceilings to suit.

Existing services such as hydraulics, electrical and mechanical facilities were relocated and/or upgraded to the school’s requirements. The ground floor works involved constructing a steel framed structure in filled with face brickwork to match the existing premises. We also constructed a large canopy area over the existing school entrance. Roofing was finished with a combination of roof tiles and Colorbond sheeting.

All internal walls were gyprock lined with a suspended grid ceiling installed. Again, electrical, hydraulic and mechanical installations were carried out to services the area.

Internal finishes on both ground and upper floors were finished with heavy duty vinyl flooring imported from Europe, durable paint finishes and a combination of solid core and safety glazed doors.

Externally, the area was completed with paving to the newly completed entrances and surrounds.

This project was viewed as a success by both the Client and Contractor as the works were carried out within budget and completed within the prescribed time frame.

Since completion, we have been fortunate to continue our relationship with the school and regularly assist them with minor work solutions as they continue to upgrade their fantastic facilities in Como.
