Murdoch University Gymnasium

This project provided a face lift to the existing gymnasium changing rooms and main hall at MurdochUniversity. The works to the changing rooms consisted of a straight forward demolition of existing internal finishes and provision of new wall and floor tiling, new hydraulic fittings and fixtures, and new shower and toilet partitions. The main hall required new cladding to two walls and new mechanical louvres to replace the existing. One problem that became apparent during the installation of the new cladding was that the existing substrate was not strong enough to take the new material. The solution was to install a new supporting steel beam for the cladding to be fixed onto, which had to be designed and manufactured in a short timeframe as the main hall was only available for a 3 week period.

For the remainder of the project the main hall remained open and accessible to the public, which meant that OH&S had to be managed and monitored closely, and constant communication between the Client and The Slatter Group WA project team was imperative.
